Spending the holidays with family can be an interesting experience, especially if your views vary drastically from those around you. You know how you differ from your family and friends, so think of a few responses for difficult situations should they occur. I have given you a few, which may be of use.
Please do not speak to me that way. If you are angry I am here to talk, but you will not insult me or call me names.
Please do not talk negatively about my children. If you have concerns, let's get together later and talk alone.
You don't have to like my children's father, but you will respect him in our house. If you can't do this, then please leave.
My daughter has a right to express her opinions. She has a voice and her father and I encourage her to use that voice.
When the children disagree with you they are not being disrespectful, they are expressing their opinion. Children have opinions just like adults.
Please don't make negative comments about people of different races and ethnicity, we are teaching our children respect for all, not just those who look like us.
We don't eat meat, we enjoy a plant based diet. Would you like to try my green beans?
